Caisson projects

Everything on this page is built from the same parts.

Caisson builds slicers, databases and tools from scratch. Scroll, and the parts below assemble into each of them.

01

Arachnid

A slicer written in Rust that optimises for wall-clock print time. This is its own G-code for a 3DBenchy, laid down part by part in the order the printer runs it.

Layer 1 of 186of the real file0.0 mof 34.6 m of bead
5m 43s
Estimated print time for this file, on a Bambu A1.
56%
Faster than Bambu Studio 2.8 on the reference Benchy, at the same machine limits.
25,203
Moves on that Benchy, where Bambu Studio emits 73,000.

02

Unitylist

A columnar store that keeps recipes instead of values. Each cell holds the cheapest way to rebuild its value from a reference value called a sink, and every column here stands on one.

1 bit
The cost of ADD, the most common opcode on the wire.
1.0 ms
To open a store of 2 million rows, down from 350 ms.
15.8 ms
For GROUP BY with SUM over those rows, down from 2,137 ms.

Venus

A council of models. A prompt goes to an initial model and a sister model in parallel, their answers are merged, and verifier and adversarial models critique the result until it holds.

7
Providers whose models can fill any seat on the council.
0
Keys needed to run the whole workflow in the built-in simulation provider.

04

Stargazer

A measured antenna pattern. The filled shape is how far one antenna heard aircraft on each of 360 bearings, and the orange line is a second antenna on the same receiver.

340.2 km
The farthest aircraft heard so far.
126,889
Position fixes behind the filled pattern.
5 s
Between each check against adsb.fi.

05

winliqglass

Apple's Liquid Glass as an OpenGL material for Windows. Shapes act as lenses, so the rim bends the background and the interior stays clear. The grid behind this slab bows inside its outline.

8
Wavelength taps recombined for the spectral edge.
2
Render passes, so glass samples the scene underneath it.

06

Tantalum

A photo studio for Windows built on .NET 9, with live camera preview, photo analysis and Real-ESRGAN upscaling.

4
Window layouts: Standard, Compact, Wide and Cinematic.
1.3.0
The current version of the desktop client.

Other builds

Six smaller builds: a tunnel relay, a binary to audio codec, a cipher solver, printer music, a live win-probability server and a stadium horn swapper.

6
Projects that are smaller than a product and still worth a page.
